Man, that's awful. My prayers go out to the family. When something like this happens, it is difficult to think that it was anything other than a head injury. There is very little information about the matter, but I can only hope that this opens a few eyes. A life shouldn't have to be lost for people to learn this. Maybe we could get some money together for a memorial to pay tribute to the individual and also raise awareness. There might be kids without a dad now. Dammit, football is played on grass, and they wear helmets, this is a sport on concrete, WTF. Again, just speculation, I have no info on wether they were wearing helmets or not. It's just hard to believe that somebody died of a broken arm, leg, or blood loss from skateboarding.

Typeing as news story ran: Skate boarder died when he collided with his brother. Channel 5 live at CWC. Wtness, Vincent Morris, said his helmet was not strapped on correctly. News showed tons of kids not wearing helmets. Camara was referenced and reporter stated it monitors the park 24hrs a day.

It's with a heavy heart and sense of void I will tell you about Big Mike.
I learned about Mike & Tony (his twin brother) as well as Mike's 13 yr old son Eric, just a few weeks ago. My long time teammate Jungle Jeff Green had met them on his last trip to Hammond, LA. He spoke of them and the cool sk8 scene in Hammond. Last Wed I was helping Jeff edit Pics & vid's from Hammond & Atlanta. Mike's son was in one video.
The very next day I treak out to our local park here in Jonesboro, AR
about 2:30. In the parking lot I find a Ford Exsursion with Sk8 stickers from Lousianna. As I roll up I find two large middle aged men and a 13 yr old grom at the bowl. I now had met Mike, Eric & Tony. It's was cold and this was the 4th Park of the day for them in Arkansas. We quickly sought Beverages, Pizza, and spent the next 4 hours being old sk8rs. This was the 1st day of their week long sk8 trip. They spend the night here before heading to Nashville CWC.
I was shocked when I heard the news. Mike was a life long sk8r from California, before settling in Lousianna. Small Time Skateshop has a site with lot's of details. This is a tragic accident, I am dumbfounded.

I was told by someone who came afterwards that they collided by the lone rail in the back of the park between flow and steet area. From what I heard, he hit the back of his head and swelling started. Also his 13 year old son was there.

It was business as usual at the park tonight: Few helmets in sight. But I don't think we need another storm of tickets over helmets. I think the best way is free unfettered skateboarding however you want to go. I always wear a helmet. But I have worn it unstrapped. And when I say I always wear a helmet, I mean I wear a helmet most of the time. I really do skate quite a lot without a helmet. I wore mine tonight, anyway.

That area back there between the street and the flow gets pretty crazy sometimes, people headed every direction and some of them speeding out of a line from one side or another.
